Attendance

Why good attendance is important for your child

At Ashbrook Junior School, we want all children to have the best possible attendance to enable each and every child to reach their full potential.  The school day runs from 8.55am to 3.25pm totalling 32.5 hours each week.  Please note that the pedestrian gate is locked at 9am.  Any child arriving after this time will need to be signed in at reception by a parent and marked as late.

There is a strong link between good school attendance and achieving good results for children. Children who frequently miss school will fall behind in their work which may affect their future prospects.

Ashbrook Junior School strives for all children to have attendance of

How we support families of children struggling to achieve good attendance

At regular intervals throughout the academic year, the attendance of every child at Ashbrook Junior School is reviewed in line with our Attendance Policy.  When a child’s attendance falls below the required standards (as set by Derbyshire County Council and Transform Trust), we will contact parents/guardians to identify support plans and interventions to help attendance to improve.

We also work closely with third party agencies (such as the Early Help Advisors) to support those families that may be struggling to achieve good attendance.

Parents/guardians should be aware that where attendance does not improve following these support plans and interventions, then a penalty notice for school non-attendance, in line with Derbyshire County Council’s Attendance Policy, may be issued.

We would urge all our families to take the time to familiarise themselves with our Attendance Policy: to ensure they understand the role they have in ensuring good attendance; and also the consequences of poor attendance.

If you would like further information regarding pupil attendance at Ashbrook Junior School, or would like to discuss your child’s attendance, please contact the school office.

Reporting Absences

Parents/guardians should contact the school (01332 673785) to report their child's absence by 9.30 am on the first day of absence.  If parents/guardians have not made contact, then we will try to contact them to establish the reason for absence.

If parents/guardians fail to contact school, and we have been unable make contact via telephone, then it may be necessary for our Attendance and Safeguarding team to conduct a wellbeing visit to the home address.
