PE and School Sport have a high profile within our school, with all children involved in PE lessons from Year 3 to Year 6. Teaching staff are trained and up to date to deliver high quality PE lessons. The children and staff were inspired by the Olympics topic in 2012 and a whole school topic has been planned for the summer term based on the Commonwealth. This will include a focus on the Commonwealth Games and continue to support the development of the Olympic values.
We are using the Primary School Sport funding to enhance this provision by ensuring that all teachers develop their skills further in the teaching of dance, gymnastics, athletics, swimming and games. Courses are being organised by our School Sports Partnership and resources will be provided linked to the course. This has included some curriculum support in orienteering and gymnastics and more is planned for the summer term.
All teaching staff have attended training in skills to support children with Special Educational needs or disabilities within PE lessons.
We will continue to work closely with our School Sports Partnership by attending meetings, training and entering competitions and festivals.
After school clubs will be led by specialist coaches. In this academic year, the chldren will be able to participate in Tai Chi, Oz Box, football, gymnastics, dance and more.
Achievement assemblies celebrate children's sporting achievements out of school and we have children taking part in the Shooting Stars Programme.
Our aim is for all children to develop a healthy lifestyle, to develop their physical skills and to gain an enthusiasm to participate in sport.
