Teaching and Learning
At Ashbrook Junior School, we believe every child deserves high-quality teaching that helps them to succeed, grow in confidence and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Our Teaching and Learning Framework sets out the approaches we use consistently across the school. It is based on educational research and ensures that every classroom provides engaging, purposeful and inclusive learning experiences.
Our teaching focuses on:
- Building strong knowledge by helping children learn new ideas in small, manageable steps.
- Revisiting previous learning regularly so that knowledge is remembered and can be applied confidently.
- High-quality questioning to check understanding, encourage discussion and deepen thinking.
- Carefully guided practice, giving children the support they need before working independently.
- Clear modelling and examples, so children understand what success looks like and how to achieve it.
- Appropriate scaffolding, providing support when needed and gradually building independence.
- A calm, purposeful learning environment where every child is encouraged to participate, challenge themselves and achieve their very best.
By using these approaches consistently across all subjects, we help our pupils become confident, resilient learners who know more, remember more and are well prepared for the next stage of their education.
