Sustainable Travel
At Ashbrook Junior School, we encourage our children and families to travel to school in sustainable ways whenever possible. Walking, cycling, or scooting are great ways to stay active, help the environment, and start the school day feeling refreshed and ready to learn!
We provide bike and scooter racks where children can safely store their bikes and scooters during the day.
For everyone’s safety, we ask that bikes and scooters are not ridden on the school premises. Children are reminded of this regularly, and we really appreciate the support of parents and carers in reinforcing this message.
Please ensure that bikes and scooters are walked from the school gates onwards. Thank you for helping us keep our school site safe and welcoming for all.
Encouraging sustainable travel is just one of the ways we support our pupils in learning to care for their community and the wider world. Together, we can make a positive difference—one journey at a time.

Bikeability
Each year, children in Y3, 4 & 5 have the opportunity to take part in Bikeability training. They will take part in the different stages of the training in order to become safe cyclists.
Travel Smart Week
We take part in the Derbyshire initiative - Travel Smart. This takes place in October and May each year. The aim of this year's campaign is to encourage children to make more active and environmentally friendly journeys to school.
