Art & Design Technology
At Ashbrook Junior School, we use the National Curriculum in England 2014 Framework for Art & Design and Design Technology as the basis for its curriculum planning. We develop our Medium Term Plans by planning for progression across the year groups in both subject areas. Links are made to termly themes and other curriculum subjects where appropriate and these are identified on the termly individual Medium Term Plans. Long term plans identify individual Art & DT units taught across the year group phases and follow a two-year cycle.
While there are opportunities for children of all abilities to develop their skills and knowledge in each teaching unit, the planned progression built into the Art & DT curriculum means that the children are increasingly challenged and supported as they move through the school. Art & DT is taught by individual class teachers, who take responsibility for planning, resourcing and delivering the Art and DT curriculum.
At Ashbrook Junior School we would like our Art and DT curriculum to be inspiring and purposeful for all of our pupils. We want our pupils to be inspired by artists and inventors locally, nationally and from around the world. Pupils will have the opportunity to discover the pivotal role which artists and inventors have played and continue to play throughout many eras and have impacted on the lives everyone lead today.
