History

The aims of the history curriculum at Ashbrook Junior School are to provide students with a knowledge rich curriculum that helps develop their understanding of how Britain and the rest of the world has changed and developed over time. We are ambitious in what children can learn, including units that go beyond the expectations of the national curriculum to ensure that they are ready for the next stage of their education. Units are planned to build on one another, providing students with the opportunity to explore links and to compare and contrast between different areas of the world as well as different periods of history as they move from lower Key Stage Two to upper Key Stage Two.

Our history curriculum provides students with the opportunity to explore a wide range of history, whether focusing in on local history, national history or world history. Students are able to explore a wide range of content, from ancient civilisations to civil movements in the 20th century including the suffragette/ suffragist movement.

We ensure all students are able to access the curriculum through the use of booklets, supporting the development of reading but also meaning that information can be referred back to through text and images. Where further support is required, adaptations are made to ensure students are able to access the key areas of learning.
