Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, Belonging

Ashbrook is a place for everyone: everyone belongs, everyone is valued, and everyone achieves.

At Ashbrook Junior School, we are proud to be a welcoming and inclusive community where every child and family is valued, respected and celebrated.

Our vision is to nurture ambitious, compassionate and confident learners who are ready to make a positive difference in the world. We believe that children achieve their very best when they feel safe, included and that they truly belong.

Our commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) underpins everything we do. It is reflected in our school values, our curriculum and in the relationships we build every day.

What DEIB means at Ashbrook

Diversity

We celebrate the unique qualities, backgrounds, experiences and cultures that make our school community special. We help children understand and appreciate differences, recognising that diversity enriches our school and prepares pupils to live in modern Britain.

Equity

We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed. We provide the support, challenge and opportunities each child needs to flourish, recognising that fairness means meeting individual needs rather than treating everyone exactly the same.

Inclusion

Every child has the right to feel welcomed, valued and included. We work closely with families to remove barriers to learning and participation so that all children can access a broad, ambitious curriculum and enjoy every aspect of school life.

Belonging

Belonging is at the heart of Ashbrook Junior School. We want every child, family, member of staff and visitor to know that they are an important part of our school community. By building positive relationships and creating a culture of kindness, respect and high expectations, we ensure everyone feels they belong.

Living our Values Every Day

Our school values help us create a community where everyone feels respected and included.

  • Respect – We value everyone's ideas, beliefs and differences.
  • Responsibility – We take responsibility for creating a welcoming community.
  • Kindness – We show empathy, compassion and care for others.
  • Creativity – We celebrate different talents, perspectives and ways of thinking.
  • Aspiration – We encourage every child to achieve their personal best.
  • Equity – We ensure every child has the opportunities and support they need to succeed.

These values are brought to life through The Ashbrook Way:

Be Kind  Be Respectful  Be Responsible

DEIB Through Our Curriculum

Our curriculum has been carefully designed to reflect the diverse world in which we live and is built around our vision:

We Know

Children develop secure knowledge and understanding through an ambitious curriculum that reflects a wide range of people, cultures, histories and perspectives.

We Connect

Children learn about themselves, their community and the wider world, developing empathy, respect and an appreciation of different experiences and viewpoints.

We Grow

Children develop confidence, resilience and character, preparing them to become thoughtful, respectful and responsible citizens.

Through our curriculum, assemblies, educational visits, visitors and wider enrichment opportunities, we encourage children to celebrate diversity, challenge stereotypes and understand the importance of equality and respect.

Working Together

We believe that strong partnerships between school and home are essential. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure every family feels welcomed, listened to and supported.

Our dedicated staff are committed to creating an environment where every child can flourish, regardless of their background, ethnicity, disability, gender, faith, family structure or individual needs.

Our Commitment

Ashbrook Junior School is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for everyone and meeting our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010. We continually review and develop our practice to ensure that diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging remain at the heart of everything we do.
