Attendance
It is important that your child attends school on every day they are able to. Being in school is important to your child’s achievement, wellbeing, and wider development.
Every moment in school counts, and days missed add up quickly. For example, a child who is absent for three days over a half term would miss more than 15 hours of learning in total.
The higher a pupil’s attendance, the more they are likely to learn, and the better they are likely to perform in exams and formal assessments. Data from 2019 shows that 84% of Key Stage 2 pupils who had 100% attendance achieved the expected standard, compared to 40% of pupils who were persistently absent across the key stage.
The school day starts at 8.55am and finishes at 3.25pm. This totals 32.5 hours each week.
Please note that the pedestrian gate is locked at 9am. Any child arriving after this time will need to be signed in at reception by a parent and marked as late.
Ashbrook is a place for everyone- everyone belongs, everyone is valued and everyone achieves.
This underpins our approach to supporting pupils to attend well. We strive to provide an environment where every pupil belongs and therefore wants to attend school. Attendance data is rigorously tracked- all absences are followed up on the first day of absence and attendance over time is tracked weekly by the safeguarding and attendance team.
Relationships with pupils and families are key to develop strategies to support when attendance rates start to drop. We will share information about your child's attendance at least half termly and more frequently if there are any concerns. If there are concerns about attendance you will be invited into school to meet the Attendance and Safeguarding Officer so we can identify any barriers to attendance and develop a plan to support your child and you so they can attend more regularly. This could include identifying support from other agencies (for example the Early Help Team)
Reporting Absences
Parents/guardians should contact the school (01332 673785) to report their child's absence by 9.00 am on the first day of absence. If parents/guardians have not made contact, then we will try to contact them to establish the reason for absence.
