The aims of the national curriculum are that all pupils:

  • develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
  • develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
  • are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.

At Ashbrook Juniors, we aim for all children to see themselves as scientists, questioning the world around them. Children will have an understanding of how science is constantly evolving, learning how theories have changed within particular units of work and how some are continuing to change. The curriculum is planned so that they are able to make links within a topic and then link this knowledge within other topics. Children should leave us with a strong knowledge based on the curricular strands but more importantly, will have a good understand of how to work scientifically.
